Siliguri

One of the most strategically located cities in the world connecting to 3 international borders (Bangladesh, Bhutan & Nepal), the only road and rail link to North Eastern India, Sikkim, and the hills of Darjeeling. Places to visit

Once only known as a stop over point for travellers destined for the Himalayas, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal and the North Eastern States, Siliguri today is in itself a destination. Some of the places to be visited are:

JALDAPARA WILDLIFE SANCTUARY: 124 km from Siliguri via New Teesta bridge (Jalpaiguri), it houses rhinos, bisons, barking deer and wild elephants.

JALDHAKA: 99km, by the side of the Jaldhaka river on the Bhutan border, is a scenic picnic spot.

GOURMARA: 87 km, from Mal and Chalsa, is a compact wildlife sanctuary. There is a forest rest house there.

COOCH-BEHAR: 104 km, is the capital of erstwhile State of the same name, and has parks, palaces and temples.

MAHANANDA WEIR: 18 km, is a picnic spot inside the Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary.

KALIJHORA: 27 km, is a picnic spot by the side of the Teesta river. It is ideal for fishing.

DHULABARI: 40 km, this small town of Nepal is popular for shopping.

MIRIK: A nest in the hills, is one of the newest hill stations of India. This beautiful hill resort amidst fascinating alpine setting, perpetual sunshine, a canopy of wild flowers and a glittering lake reflecting the magnificence of the eastern Himalayas is 52 kms from here.

Getting there

Siliguri is well connected by air, rail & road. The air and rail terminal serves for the entire region as mentioned above.

AIR: 13 km from the main city is the Bagdogra Airport connected by direct flight with New Delhi, Calcutta and Guwahati.

RAIL: 04 km away from the main city is the New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (Popularly known as NJP station). It is also the originating point for the world famous Toy Train, one of the major tourist attractions, bound for Darjeeling.

ROAD: Siliguri boasts of numerous long and short distance coach service being operated from Tenzing Norkay Bus Terminus and SNT bus stop on the Hill Cart Road, the Dooars bus stand on the Bidhan road, the Siliguri bus syndicate near Siliguri Court, and the Bhutan bus stand on the Burdwan Road. Car rental services are also available. Overnight services are available for Patna in Bihar, Guwahati in Assam, Phuntsholing in Bhutan, Kathmandu/Pokhara/Chitwan in Nepal via Kakarbhita, and many other destinations in the surrounding areas.
